1/12 Hawker Tempest Mk II

Laser cut, built up wood kit with vacuum formed canopy and very strong, quick building laser cut wooden cowl. Pre-cut ply gear doors and wing fillets. Builds quickly using a "central fuselage box" construction to eliminate planking around compound curves. Only 6 wing ribs per side! Typical weight, framed, covered and painted, no engine, no radio, no wheels - 1 lb. Pre-cut wing sheeting panels and innovative construction make building this complex wing shape a snap. Wash-out built in to semi-symmetrical wings using automatic jigging that is not removed until D-tube locks the wing into alignment. Very sturdy construction.

Excellent flight characteristics, over a surprisingly wide speed range. Incredible stability for its size. Huge loops, smooth axial rolls, moderate rudder response. Very little yaw-roll or roll-yaw coupling when set up as suggested. While not intended as an unlimited aerobat, it will surprise you with its prowess for aerobatics. Thin airfoil gives very good top speed, yet landing speeds are low. Little danger of tip stall at low speeds. Very tight minimum turn radius, with no tendancy towards high speed stall. Flies like its on rails.

Own a georgeous semi-elliptical wing Warbird that's inexpensive, quick to build, and can fly with a wide selection of power plants. Many consider it to have been superior even to the excellent Sea Fury. The Tempest Mk II has all of the beuaty and grace of a Spitfire, but with the intimidating spinner and cowl of a Sea Fury. Georgeous wing planform. Fly it in scale rallies and contests, 1/12 combat, SMALL, or World Miniature Warbird Association events. Leave it clean for maximum performance, or load it down with guns, rockets bombs and drop tanks for the "ready for action" look.
